Caffe Murano, Greenbelt 5, Makati City

Kaoko, Melo, and I were invited by the folks at Greenbelt 5′s Caffe Murano to have at go at their Italian menu, which we gamely took up one Thursday night after work. The Caffe Murano is a combination gallery and cafe that features hand blown Venice glass art pieces and accessories as well as simple and tasty desserts and cafe fare.

We had a plate of antipasti, spinach and ricotta ravioli, a pizza with almost everything on it, and some gelato to round it all out. The entrees were quite good but personally the standout of the night was the gelato — the chocolate was nice, rich, dark, and did not have any of the cloying creaminess of kids ice cream. Another plus for the caffe was their selection of cocktails and beer that — for a place located in pricey Greenbelt 5, were not going to break the bank.

It’s a great place to walk to and wind down after another grinding day at the country’s financial district — so drop by, take off your tie, and have a cold one.

We got a caprese antipasti platter—slices of tomatoes and mozzarella drizzled with olive oil and topped with some basil. Served on a bed of greens and with ripe olives on the side. [...]
