Chicago Popcorn Shop, SM Mall of Asia

One of the best things about living next to Mall of Asia is the luxury of walking around with no other purpose than to simply hang out. Rael and I have discovered many fun things this way — from lonely stashes of Meiji Melty Kiss ripe for the picking, to the good-natured manang who runs the Ilocos Empanada shop and always gives us extra packets of lovely native vinegar whenever we drop by.

One of our more recent discoveries was the flagship store of The Chicago Popcorn Shop. We had wandered to that section of the mall to check out the newly opened Team Manila store, hoping to score some interesting tees and maybe another laptop carrier. The wonderful smell of butter and popcorn lured as to TCPS instead, as well as the promise of free samples <3

We were greeted by a staff of four (who, by the looks of things, actually own the place ^^;;) and were treated to their signature caramel and cheese popcorn. The mixture was surprisingly good — even better than the more easily recognizable and widespread kettle popped-corn. The rich gooey-ness of the caramel was cut by the savory saltiness of the cheese.

If eating both flavors at the same time was great, eating them separately was another experience altogether. The richness of the caramel became more pronounced, while the cheese was just finger lickin’ good. Our minds made up for us, Rael and I purchased one bag each of both flavors (also available in two gallon tins FTW!), and nom nom nomed them on the way home.

CPS is located on the second floor at the south side of the Entertainment Mall of Mall of Asia, near the Discovery Science Center and Team Manila Lifestyle Store.
